What is going inside the Silent Halls?
Adrahawn, an unusual Wood Elf with a passion for trees, claims that he is searching for an otherworldly seed rumored to be lost in the ruins known as the Silent Halls. I agreed to help him retrieve it.

Quick Walkthrough[edit]

  1. Speak to Adrahawn and enter the Silent Halls.
  2. Investigate the strange vines around exterior ruins.
  3. Enter the inner xanmeer and search for further clues.
  4. Talk to Bevene Rethandus.
  5. Find and free the remaining prisoners, and then talk to Adrahawn.
  6. Gather seeds from the harrada heart bulb and poison the harrada vines.
  7. Talk to Adrahawn and make a decision on what to do with the seeds.
  8. Meet Adrahawn outside.

Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

As you approach The Silent Halls you will hear Adrahawn talking to himself:

"Was this the place? Hey there, little leaf! Is this the Silent Halls?"

Ask him why he is outside the Argonian Ruins. He tells you a willow tree told him he could find the ruins here, but he doesn't wholly trust directions from trees. He is there because he is looking for a harrada creeper seed.

Investigate the Harrada Creeper Vines[edit]

Enter The Silent Halls and Adrahawn will want to speak to you again. He tells you that he just had a dizzy spell because all the trees are talking too loudly. Then he says you should look around to see what "all the commotion's about." He then realizes you can't hear the plants and trees talking, so he tells you the flora are in a tizzy and it sounds like trouble he's never felt before.

Find the heart of the plant

You will examine Harrada Creeper Vines in three locations in the outdoor Overgrowth area: directly ahead and to the left of the fighting wamasu and haj mota, to the east near a dead salamander and an Argonian skeleton, and to the west of Kao'kuul. The locations can be investigated in any order. You will extract a different part of the plant each time you investigate: Harrada Vine Sap, Harrada Vines, and Harrada Thorns. As you check the first marked location, Adrahawn says you need to find the roots. Go to another location, and he'll tell you to pull the vines up, but you still won't find the roots. Then after you examine the third location and find no roots, talk to Adrahawn and he will tell you he realizes the creeper is strangling a tree in the area. He tells you he thinks the heart of the harrada creeper took root near the strangled tree, which is probably deeper in the ruin.

Investigate the Interior Ruins[edit]

Head towards the west side of the ruins where you will find the entrance to the interior ruins up some stairs north of The Silent Sentry. After entering the Xanmeer, head down another set of stairs. At the bottom of the stairs, Adrahawn sees the vines and suspects they're doing alchemy with the vines. You need to search the area for three more clues. These can be collected in any order.

To the right of the stairs is a Lumpy Sack on a crate. Search the sack to find Dried Harrada Vines. Adrahawn says they have harvested a lot of them.

In the northernmost corner of the room, you will find a Bloodied Backpack. Inside you will find Caravan Papers that distress Adrahawn as he thinks of a poor tree hacked to bits for paper.

The final clue is in a Damaged Crate near a table to the left of the southwestern exit from the room. It contains an alchemical Sul-Xan Concoction. Adrahawn supposes it was made from the harrada creeper.

Speak to Adrahawn again. He suspects that, although the Sul-Xan are raiders, they must be using the equipment spread around the room to create some sort of concoction. He goes on to say that since Argonians are making potions from Oblivion plants, and the tree is begging for your help, that's all the more reason to remove the harrada creeper. You question his claim of the tree begging you, and he responds:

"Yeah! Or at least that's the impression I get. Tree-speaking ain't easy you know. Even Valenwood trees are all rhymie-whymie with their communication. I haven't quite got the Blackwood dialect down yet.
Getting that creeper solves everything!"

Talk to Bevene Rethandus[edit]

Bevene Rethandus

Continue your search to the northeast side of the interior ruins, watching out for traps and enemies as you go. When you reach a room with a bloody pool in the center and defeat some Sul-Xan, you hear a voice cry out for help. Adrahawn will mistake it for a tree before realizing it's actually a woman. Continue straight on to find the injured Bevene Rethandus sitting against the wall, manacles still around her wrists. She is begging for help, saying someone took her family.

"Sul-Xan. Ambushed the caravan we were with, dragged everyone here. Tried to escape, but they caught us. Killed anyone who resisted. Left me for dead. Put the survivors back to work."

When you ask what they are making the captives do, she says they are harvesting and grinding some nettles into powder and mixing it into a concoction. The potion turns the Sul-Xan into monsters that are tearing each other apart. She says the captives are in the heart of the ruin where the vine grows. It is feeding on the captives' blood.

When you are done talking to Bevene, speak with Adrahawn again. He is even more determined to stop the Sul-Xan from cultivating the vines and using the captives for labor and fertilizer. He wants to free the other prisoners before dealing with the creeper. Head into the heart of the ruin through the northeast door.

Free the Prisoners[edit]

Dread Irenan

Once you enter the Vine Warrens, you will see Dread Irenan in the middle of a large room straight ahead. You will need to get around him to get to the prisoners. There are slicing arms swinging in each corner next to you. Take the northeast passage on the other side of Dread Irenan. When you get to the entrance to a large carvern, Adrahawn will remark that there are creepers and prisoners everywhere. Stop to speak to him about your next move. He says you and he should split up so you can free the prisoners quickly. He says he will climb up to the prisoners on the trellises if you free the ones on the ground while keeping the Sul-Xan distracted.

Find the three prisoners and break the Chainposts to free them. As you approach and free them, each prisoner will comment and then run ahead. They can be rescued in any order. Turath Rethandus is located directly ahead. Gaubert Cerone is located up a ramp to the northwest. Galos Rethandus is located up two ramps in the southeast part of the cavernous room.

When you have freed all three caravanners, meet with Adrahawn on a landing up some stairs to the east. The three prisoners you rescued as well as the three he rescued (Havild, Khaz-dar, and Gratubal) will be waiting there as well. Adrahawn says you need to find the heart of the harrada creeper, which should be a big bud with roots. You must reach into it and pull out its seed pod, and then pour poison around it to kill it. He gives you Adrahawn's Weed Poisons. Adrahawn will go back to rescue Bevene in the meantime.

Kill the Vines[edit]

Go through the nearby door to the Hist Overlook. In the clearing ahead, Mixultlan Rootstrangler will be guarding the Harrada Creeper Bulb, which lies up an incline on the right. You will need to pull the Harrada Creeper Seeds out of the bulb and pour the poison on two Harrada Creeper Roots surrounding the bulb.

Then head north into the Root Cavern where you will find Bevene lying down and Adrahawn beside her, talking to his new tree friend. He says it thanks you for saving it. When you ask about Bevene, he says she is barely hanging on, but the Hist tree says the creeper's seeds could save her. He struggles with giving up the seeds to save Bevene and needs your help to make the decision.

"I, uh, I … gosh. If it were the Green, wouldn't be a question. The plant comes first.
The Pact doesn't count here, but if I grow my own creeper … I can get more seeds and make more medicines. Looking at her now though—I just don't know!"
Those seeds are more valuable than the life of a stranger.
"Right. Got to look at the bigger picture. I'm not just trading the life of the plant for the life of a woman. I'm trading all the potential benefits this ornery root can have for the whole ecology.
I'll just have to make sure that's worth it."
Helping her is the right thing to do.
"Yeah. Yeah, you're right. Even the tree knows that - what do you mean it's not for you to decide? What made you think I was qualified - oh, right, I should hurry.
I'll mix up a medicine and hope for the best. We'll meet you outside with the others."
The prisoner recuperate

No matter your decision, Adrahawn will hang back to tend to Bevene. Turn around and exit the cave to the north. Adrahawn will join you outside, along with Bevene if you convinced him to save her. All of the freed prisoners will be resting there. Bevene's husband, Turath, will react with relief or sorrow, depending on your choice. Speak to Adrahawn to complete the quest and receive a gift for helping him.

Bugs[edit]

  • If you are in a group while doing this quest, only 1 person will be able to gather the seeds from the harrada heart and advance the quest, as it will disappear for all players in the group when 1 person activates it.
    • Doing the quest solo or being the only person in a group doing the quest allows you to advance normally.
