Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

If you're heading to Baandari Trading Post from Silvenar, you'll run into Tabil as you enter through the gate.

"A thousand pardons, but please do not stray too far from the walls while in our village. It is for your own safety, and ours.
Our shops are still open, for your convenience."
Is it not safe here?
"Well, it's safe here. Outside, not as much, with the Gold Coast mercenaries looking for trouble.
From the looks of it, you know how to take care of yourself. Honored Eraral-dro should meet you, I think."
Who is he?
"He is our clan's elder, and I am his apprentice. His worries weigh heavily upon him, and I wish to unburden him.
If you will help him, you help us all."

At the trade stalls at the north end of the post you'll find the Baandari patriarch fretting. The Baandari are in a bit of a predicament. They hired a mercenary group to protect them in light of the dangers permeating Malabal Tor. However, things are getting a bit shaky, and Eraral-dro is worried that the mercenaries may turn on them soon.

What makes you think the mercenaries will turn against you?
"A matter of gold, and a matter of pride. They've demanded more than agreed upon. Suspicious, yes?
I believe they weigh two contracts - ours and another's. They wait on news from Colovia, by courier."
But why would they kill you, instead of just leaving?
"As I said, I am not sure, which is why I must see that missive before it reaches the mercenaries' hands.
Perhaps it is nothing. Perhaps it simply says to leave. But I cannot hold my family to 'perhaps.'"

It's time for some subterfuge and preemptive self-defense in the name of protecting the clan. Eraral-dro wants you to investigate the courier's campsite north of town and see if you can find a clue as to what they might do next. Head north, just outside the walls, to the courier's campsite. There is a book on a bench with a note between its pages. Read the note and the courier will appear. You'll need to "dispatch" this courier to move the quest forward. There is a set of orders on the courier's corpse. Between the two notes, clearly the mercenaries are planning to betray the Khajiiti clan, but there is no mention of killing anyone to do so. Pick them up and return to Eraral-dro. He will then ask to speak to you in his office, at Rejmina's House, where he will reveal just how far he is willing to go to protect his people. He'll ask you to remove the courier's uniform.

What are you planning to do with this disguise?
"A simple switch, friend. The Gold Coast waits for orders, and we will give them.
Deliver this altered letter to their captain. Let one enemy kill the other."
Who are you sending them against?
"Nearby, a pack of werewolves stalks and waits. No doubt they would tear us apart if not for the mercenaries in their way.
As the Gold Coast and the werewolves fight, it would be best if few survivors live to tell the tale."

After going over the plan, simply walk into the mercenaries' camp, disguised in the uniform you removed from the courier's body, and give forged orders to their captain. Afterward, Tabil will get your attention again and ask if you're prepared to go all the way to make the plan a success.

What's your plan?
"Kill the commanders in the mercenaries' ranks. Make it look as if they fell to werewolves. You'll need a paw from a werewolf for the right marks.
That should distract them for a bit. Eraral-dro will be at the gates when you return. Be safe, friend."

The werewolves have appeared on the edge of town, on Four Quarry Islet. You need to kill Commanders Concordia, Jano, and Tacita. Once the deed is done, with blood on your hands for having murdered four people (four including the werewolf) and arranging for the deaths of many more (both mercenaries and werewolves) in order to prevent them from potentially attacking the Khajiiti clan, return to Eraral-dro near the stables to close out the quest. He will tell you the next steps of his plan for protecting the clan.

Notes[edit]

  • Courier Rufinus will continue to have a courier disguise in his loot inventory after you physically strip the uniform from his corpse and leave him in his underwear. This is so that if you lose the original disguise you can acquire a new one; however, it won't make sense visually.
  • Captain Aurelia Blasio won't exist in the mercenary camp before starting the quest or reaching the related objective.
  • The Gold Coast commanders on the islet don't give experience or loot when killed.

Bugs[edit]

  • The objective marker remains over the book after the hostile courier arrives, instead of updating to indicate to defeat him. The prompt on the book remains but does nothing when used again. ?
  • After obtaining the missive from the courier, the objective marker on the map to meet Eraral-dro is farther into town than he actually is; he is standing just inside the gate to the right. ?

Trivia[edit]

Quest title is a play on the saying: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."

Tabil asked me to speak to the patriarch of the trading post, a Khajiit named Eraral-dro.
Objective: Talk to Eraral-dro
Latest start Eraral-dro worries the Gold Coast mercenaries will be getting new orders soon. He wants me to intercept them before they get to the Gold Coast, so he can know what to expect.

Objective: Make a Plan of Action with Eraral-dro in His Office

Objective Hint: Put on the Disguise
I've delivered the altered letter to the Gold Coast captain. I should see what the Baandari's plans are next.

  • Not all Journal Entries may appear in your journal; which entries appear and which entries do not depends on the manner in which the quest is done.
  • Stages are not always in order of progress. This is usually the case with quests that have multiple possible outcomes or quests where certain tasks may be done in any order. Some stages may therefore repeat objectives seen in other stages.
