Captain Altair is the spirit of a Breton ship captain in Ghost Haven Bay. He acts as one of the bosses in the public dungeon.

Captain Altair during vision

After encountering Vanisande Maul's spirit she will explain that Commodore Malfairre performed a dark druidic ritual which meant none of those beneath him could truly die. Vanisande then asks for your help breaking the curse, but asks you to find information regarding the ritual.

This can be found from reading various captain logs around the caverns and witnessing the visions of the past she conjures. Captain Altair appears in two:

After reading Debonaire's Captain Log:

Vanisande Maul: "There's lingering doubt about this book. Regrets are a lost soul's anchor."

After reading Dour Lady's Captain Log:

Vanisande Maul: "I can feel the dread clinging to this one."

Captain Altair: "The Commodore keeps those old idols as good luck charms, but you have to wonder whose favor he's attracting."

Captain Tuvacca: "Aye, and he claims that crusty old tome keeps the secrets of the seas. Why aren't we all bending knee to druids then?"

Dialogue

When his hostile spirit is encountered, he will cry out:

Captain Altair: "My only wish is that the druids of the deep suffered a fate worse than ours."

Captain Altair: "What wretched things we become."

Captain Altair: "Death holds no meaning…Neither does this…"

Skills and Abilities

Stab

Basic physical attack.

Off-Hand Strike

A physical attack dealing minor damage. If it hits in the back, it also staggers and applies a bleeding effect. They always use this attack when they reappear behind from using their salt abilities.

Lunge

When far, the swashbuckler charges the target, dealing damage and staggering it.

Void Salt Explosion

The enemy throws down void salts, causing an explosion and setting down a gout of lightning, indicated by a circular AoE, that deals damage over time when you stand in it. The initial blast does lightning damage. The enemy disappears and cannot be targeted while the ability is active.

Burning Void Salts

The pool of lightning caused by Void Salt Explosion. Deals lightning damage over time.

Somersault

The enemy somersaults backwards to put distance between you and them.

Boulder Toss/Debris Toss

Captain Altair grabs a large rock on the ground and tosses it on a target, dealing moderate damage and knocking down targets in the area of impact.

Vomit

Captain Altair breathes fire in a cone which deals continuous disease damage to targets inside.

Notes

• Despite breathing flames, Vomit deals disease damage.
