silence exceptions[edit]

(from page text) - "Despite its name, Silence does not prevent the PC or NPCs from engaging in dialogue, nor does it stop them from groaning or screaming in combat. "

I would assume that this exception includes being detectable by being 'audible' as described on other pages. If those other things are included, it's only right to add this. Does anyone know for sure? — Unsigned comment by 67.183.28.2 (talk) on 19 March 2009
Silence only stops you casting spells. It has no effect on sneaking or anything else. –RpehTCE 05:11, 19 March 2009 (EDT)

The name of the effect is pretty obviously "borrowed" from AD&D where (most) spells have a "verbal component" and yes, under that circumstances, it makes sense to name the effect, that prevents spells with such a component, as "Silence". (And yes on AD&D it prevents talking as well.) 80.240.16.121 20:58, 6 February 2010 (UTC)

Silence and Powers[edit]

(moved from the article)

Greater and Lesser Powers are immune to Silence effects. Be aware that most Monsters and Undead have at least one power at their disposal (specified in the creatures' detailed descriptions as Immune to Silence), so Silence may have little or no effect on them.

On the other hand, if you are Silenced, any powers your character possesses can still be employed.

This is all wrong, only some Powers are immune to Silence. The part about "Be aware [...] so Silence may have little or no effect on them." may be right, but should be reworded. --Wizy (Talk/Contribs) 11:37, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Is this something you've checked in-game or are you going from the "Immune to Silence" flag in the CS? rpeh •TCE 11:59, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
I have checked some in-game and all in CS by that flag, I haven't found discrepancies so I have assumed the flag is right and most are checked in CS only. I will go now to check in-game as many as possible to be sure. --Wizy (Talk/Contribs) 12:17, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
I have checked in-game all the powers from races, birthsigns, SI quests and Orrery's. They all match the CS. --Wizy (Talk/Contribs) 12:42, 9 January 2011 (UTC)
Good work. Annoying that we've had incorrect information for so long, though. rpeh •TCE 13:19, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

() I don't have the CS (I play on console), but might someone who does add the list of exceptions to this page?--VɅƝØȠƊØΓƑ ʂƥξαƙ|łǐșτεŋ 19:36, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Cant find Silence at Altar of Enchanting[edit]

I have purchased Silence Spells, but when I try to enchant a weapon, the Silence effect does not appear. Can't it be used as an offensive enchantment on weapons? Could it be because the only Silence spells I have, I can't cast yet because my illusion level isn't high enough?96.227.78.41 21:40, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

To gain access to any effect you must possess at least 1 spell with that effect that you can cast. --DKong27 Tk Ctr Em 21:45, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

With UOP[edit]

Shouldn't it be mentioned that the UOP fixes the issue where certain powers are not immune to silence? Because that is a bug as far as I can tell.
