Necessary to Speak to Larthjar?[edit]

Is it necessary to speak to this character to complete the Speechcraft Master Training Quest? — Unsigned comment by 81.109.18.17 (talk)

You are correct: it is not necessary to talk to him for the speechcraft quest. I've also added the info to Oblivion:Beggars. Thanks for pointing that out! --NepheleTalk 15:57, 4 August 2007 (EDT)

Weird Behavior[edit]

This has been marked as a question that needs to be answered.

I'm on the xbox and i just noticed when i entered the Arboretum that he acts as if i am tresspasing in a shop. telling me 'I need you to leave so I can lock up'. Anyone else noticed this - Ranger King 09:33, 15 September 2007 (EDT)

Do you have all the latest patches installed? Because this sounds like one of the problems that occurs with the Reference Bug (which can pop up with enough playtime even if Shivering Isles has not been installed). --NepheleTalk 19:15, 24 September 2007 (EDT)
I know this is an age-old discussion, but this just happened to me as well. At around 6pm on a normal morndas, he suddenly followed me everywhere in the Arboretum and asked me to leave - just like he owned the place. For the record, I'm on the PS3 (GotY) and have completed his related quest months ago. Would be great, if somebody could look in the CS and check this phenomenon. I have a save to check it further if necessary. Krusty 20:27, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Once again, 12pm Turdas. Stopped following me at 2pm. Seems like he has some eating times, where he'd rather be left alone in the Arboretum. Krusty 17:55, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
Old topic I know, but I've just had a quick look in the CS. His two begging packages have the "Continue if PC near" flag checked. If my knowledge of that particular flag is correct, it could be the thing responsible for this behaviour. Him starting this at 12 would go nicely with his LarthjarBegAtMainGate package, which should end at 12 and has the flag I mentioned above checked, meaning he'd hound the player to go away before he can switch package. This should also make him do the same thing if the player is around at 6pm, as he is scheduled to finish begging at the Palace Gate at this point. I could, however, be completely wrong. Any thoughts? --Takark 22:43, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
That is indeed what that flag is intended for, so it seems highly likely that that's what's causing the behaviour. I'll let Krusty check it, since he has (or at least had) a saved game from the appropriate time. Robin Hoodtalk 23:01, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

() Right, we have progress. I had a flash of inspiration and wondered if it might be the "Public" flag on the Arboretum's dummy cell. To explain, the all towns have a dummy interior that enables scripts to determine whether an actor is in the town: since there are several cells that make up each town, it would be a pain to have to check them all so the script looks for a prefix. This means that checking the interior ICArboretum checks ICArboretum01, ICArboretum02, ICArboretum03 and ICArboretum04. There's another dummy cell called IC that covers the entire city.

The thing is that interiors have flags for public, out of bounds and so on and exteriors don't. The Public flag on the ICArboretum cell (and all others I checked) isn't ticked, which means that theoretically, you're trespassing. For some reason, Larthjar (and Numeen) are checking this flag. I created a tiny mod that changes the dummy cell to Public and Larthjar never bothered me.

This still doesn't answer the Good Question, though. I'd like to know why Larthjar only does this on certain days - he never bothered me on Sundas for instance - and why only he and Numeen do it at all. Progress, though. rpeh •TCE 12:57, 29 November 2010 (UTC)

If it's any constellation, I summoned Newheim the Portly using the Placeatme command on Dive Rock and he pretty much acted exactly the same way; following me around and telling me "Leave now or I'll call the guards and have you arrested" - fortunately, he eventually fell to his death 213.107.185.137 21:19, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

Needs adding to the main article[edit]

Well, this obviously needs to be mentioned in the main article.— Unsigned comment by Yoblivio (talkcontribs) at 14:51 on 1 August 2011

Indeed it does. However, I have removed the bugs section you added, simply because if we're going to create it, the section needs to have content.--Kalis AgeaYes? Contrib E-mail 15:11, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
