Rowley Glitches[edit]
In my most recent game, Rowley Eardwulf has other items for sale, but not the Deepscorn Hollow upgrades! Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know if there's anything I can do? I'm thinking it may have been caused by bartering with Rowley before I got the quest update telling me he sold the upgrades. Can anyone corroborate? Should we post a warning on The Vile Lair page? BTW, I am playing on XBOX360. — Unsigned comment by GuildKnight (talk • contribs) at 03:33 on 17 October 2006

- Did you happen to speak with Rowley or Aurelinwae before receiving the quest updates that tell you to purchase upgrades for the homes from them? I've found that this happens to me if I speak with them before receiving the corresponding quest update. GuildKnight 18:06, 19 November 2006 (EST)

- One thing you might want to try is uninstalling the mod, opening your most recent save (you'll get a warning about missing game content), saving, then reinstalling the mod. This will completely restart the quest. Since you haven't bought anything yet, you won't lose any money or other perks; all you'll have to do is travel back to Deepscorn Hollow one extra time. This time, be sure not to talk to Rowley until after you've read Greywyn's Journal. It's probably alot easier than any other type of fix (and you'll probably get some better loot as a result, too; see Leveled Items further down the page).
- If you try this and it does work, I'd like to hear about it. If you could confirm it's a workable fix, then it could be added to the main page so others can use it too. Thanks! --Nephele 01:00, 5 January 2007 (EST)

(←) I made sure to not speak to him until I got the quest saying he has what I need, and he still doesn't have the items for sale. Only a few enchanted items and random weapons. Any Ideas?? I tried uninstalling and restarting the quest... twice. I also tried uninstalling, and loading an older save, then installing and going straight to the hollow, I got the journal, it suggests I speak to Rowley, I go there and he STILL doesn't have anything but a few weapons." — Unsigned comment by 12.201.21.248 (talk) at 07:30 on 3 February 2007
- Do you have any other mods installed that might be interfering? If you've installed other mods (especially non-Bethesda mods), you might want to try running the game without any of them loading just to see what happens in that case. There are other cases where making sure that the official mod loads after any other mods was necessary to get it to work properly. --Nephele 03:07, 3 February 2007 (EST)

- I ran into this problem too, actually, and just fixed it. I was on 360, and ran over to some area away from Deepscorn, and saved the game. I then deleted the plugin, and reloaded my file. I saved again, redownloaded the plugin, and started up the game, holding A to clear the cache. The quest ran perfectly fine for me. — Unsigned comment by 70.144.120.184 (talk) at 22:35 on 18 March 2007

- I'm having a similar problem, I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, disables extra mods etc. and still Rowley only displays a few magic item,s but no upgrades for the hollow. I have tried different times, and as I said been doing hte uninstall, save reinstall thing with no success. - I've found the cause of Rowley not having the Deepscorn upgrade items available. It has nothing to do with bartering with hm before going there. It's a quest bug... the player has to get the quest popup that they have arrived at Deepscorn when they get there. This quest stage enables the merchant chest for the upgrades and assigns it to Rowley. The problem is that the range from the map marker that the quest checks for is too small. The player can go into the underwater entrance without triggering the popup. No popup, no upgrade items. I will be updating the main page with this and a workaround. I will put it under the Bugs at the bottom. Kivan 11:11, 17 June 2007 (EDT)

(←) I installed the Unofficial Oblivion Mod Patch recommended on this website, did NOT fix the problem, I tried after midnight, no luck, i've explored all around it, didnt help. - Rowley doesn't sell any Deepscorn items. I double-checked that I got all the journal updates, that is; DLCDeepscorn 10, 20, 30 and 40, prior to speaking with him. I have the Unofficial Oblivion, Unofficial SI and Unofficial official mods patches and all of the official mods and no others installed. I've tried selling a lot of items to him and waiting 24 hours, buying all of his items and waiting 24 hours, advancing the quest purely by console, purely by foot-travel and using fast-travel. Is there a way to directly get the Deepscorn Upgrades with the help of the console? — Unsigned comment by 88.222.26.110 (talk) at 12:05 on 24 March 2012

- I'm having exactly the same problem - Rowley doesn't sell any Deepscorn items. Fully-patched Steam version with all DLC/expansion installed, plus unofficial Oblivion/SI/Mods patches (and no other mods) installed. - Hi, I don't normally post things on this site but I use it a lot for help. Thought it might be good of me to give back, so after playing around with the game I found a solution that worked for me. If you disable the unofficial patch for Deepscorn Hollow (different than the general unofficial patch), the upgrades will be available for purchase. I don't know if that will fix the other DLC homes, but I suspect it will :) — Unsigned comment by 99.240.220.247 (talk) at 14:18 on 20 September 2013

(←) I manually added the items through the console. It doesn't fix the quest because you have to actually buy the items from Rowley for the game to recognize the transaction. What I noticed is that he will sell regular items when he sits outside, but when he went into the inn and sat at the top of them steps, the items magically appeared. So, I'd try that in combo with the SetStage command, as I tried that too. Maybe it takes a while for him to reset, or he doesn't want to sell that item outside? — Unsigned comment by 100.2.149.240 (talk) at 00:58 on 28 September 2013

- I just confirmed that "he will sell regular items when he sits outside, but when he went into the inn and sat at the top of them steps, the items magically appeared". This is the most important comment on this page. If you don't know this, you'll never "fix" the "bug". — Unsigned comment by 74.73.172.32 (talk) at 05:37 on 1 April 2015 (GMT)

- I can confirm the bug is related to UOP for the Vile Lair being active, so they need to go back and fix something they broke and ignore the guy directly above me as he apparently wasn't facing the actual bug. Nothing was making the lair upgrades appear. I tried leaving, going back to the lair, different times during day/night, setstage was useless as I'd actually gotten correct updates in-game and he would not sell the lair upgrade items on the stairs. Finally decided to disable the UOP Vile Lair esm and loaded game. Tried again and this time all the upgrades were finally available. I'd been using the same save for all previous attempts once I realized it was bugged. He does have to be inside on the stairs. If he's not offering the items, disable the Vile Lair UOP and try again. He should sell them now. Once the items are purchased and the quest updates, make a manual save then exit the game. Re-enable the patch then continue playing.

Buying Problem[edit]
Well, I did make a new game, and sure enough, when I exited the sewers, it gave the quest to me right? And I did all you have to do, but then I went up to Rowley Eardwulf, but he was selling innkeeper items? So I bought one, thinking it might turn into what it is intended to be, but it just stayed like that? Has anyone else had this problem? Or am I the only one>> — Unsigned comment by 117.53.133.133 (talk) at 05:25 on 9 May 2009
- Sorry but you're going to have to rephrase that - I have no idea what you mean. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 01:36, 9 May 2009 (EDT)

- To clarify, he/she means that the deepscorn items aren't showing up in Rowley Eardwulf's inventory and he/she thought that the housing items were disguised as regular items and when they bought them they would turn into the Deepscorn items, however, that didn't work (because it isn't set up like that) so they came here to ask about it. Hope that helps.:)Xeroph 20:37, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Buy and Sell-Problem[edit]
I think I made a big mistake. At first I bought the Ichor of Sithis, the Dining Room, the Minion, the cattle cell, the garden and the Working Area from Rowley. I kept the scrolls and looked. Result: everything fine. After making some more money I wanted to buy the two remaining rooms: Storage and "bed"-room. Bought them and hen, without going out of the window, I sold them back by making them a "Present" because they were worth nothing and afterwards closed the window plus ending the conversation. First, I was a little bit worried, why my Quest didn't update. So, I travelled to Vile Lair to check, whether everything was all rigtht. It was pretty strange when I arrived and checked: The two rooms were not upgraded. So I went back to Rowley to rebuy the Upgrades, willing to finish the Quest and my nice little lair. But I was terribly disappointed and a little bit shocked when I noticed he didn't sell those two scrolls. Thus I rested about 24hours, giving him chance to readd them in his sellinglist but it didn't work out. I have also no savegame that reaches back before I bought them. So now my question: Is there any chance for me now to get those two rooms upgraded or will my Vampire-Assassin never get to his little coffin?— Unsigned comment by 79.229.223.129 (talk) at 14:30 on 18 September 2009
- If you're on the PC, check the Construction Set for the IDs of the upgrades papers you lost and use the console command "player.additem" command to give them back to your character and wait for the quest to update. If you're in the XBOX then you need to uninstall and reinstall the plugin and redo everything, because there's no non-console work around for this bug... 187.3.168.228 13:33, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
- Also, make sure you're not INSIDE Deepscorn when you add the papers to your character... I'm not sure what the results are, but the game is likely to crash. 187.3.168.228 13:36, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

- This is a known glitch with all housing. Unfortunately if you are playing on the Xbox ( I don't think there is anyway) there is no known fix, however, as mentioned above you can fix it on the PC using console commands Xeroph 20:51, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
-
-
- Actualy, there is a way to fix it in the xbox, although I'm not sure if it's the best way. All you need to do is delete the plug-in and download it again, although you will need to redo the quest and spend more money to purchase the upgrades again. Aside from that, the only other way I can think of, is to reload to a previous save where you haven't purchased the upgrades yet. --S'drassa •T2M 22:38, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

- Well, yes there is that. I forgot about that. But unless those items are extremely important to you it is a bit drastic. Still, thanks for correcting me.And, I don't mean to sound like a nag (and I'm very sorry if I do) but he already said about having no save stretching back to then. And if everything I say is utter garbage please don't ignore my mistakes. Visitors in my Lair[edit]
An Imperial Legion Forester keeps spawning in my lair. I keep trying to explain to him how I don't appreciate visitors and I have already discussed this with Minion. How do I get the bastard to leave. Everytime I kill him a new one takes his place. — Unsigned comment by 74.140.202.193 (talk) at 04:20 on 16 April 2010
- You may be better off using a Command Humanoid spell to guide him out rather than killing him. It's very odd, though. There's no reason he should be spawning there. rpeh •T•C•E• 09:56, 16 April 2010 (UTC)

Question.[edit]
I've noticed that sometimes Rowley seems to sit down on the stairs , in a way , a place where no one can sit. Is it worth mentioning? JackTurbo95 09:54, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
-
- No, it's not a bug, he only sells when he's sitting on the stairs. It's actually a clever trick used by the devs where he sits on a special tool inaccesible to the player. It also occurs with Fathis Ules. And it's already noted on Rowleys page. Credits to Rpeh for the explanation. Kitkat xxx •Talk•Contrib•E-mail 10:03, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
