Bug Question[edit]
This bug was on the main page, but I've moved it here to get confirmation/clarification:
- Do not run into the Oblivion Gate _before_ you speak to the leader of the city, only after you speak to him and he says "please close that Oblivion Gate outside of the city". If you first go to the Oblivion Gate, then speak to the leader, there will be another Oblivion Gate outside the city!
My problem is that you never speak to the "leader of the city" (Countess Narina Carvain) during this quest, only Captain Burd. And Captain Burd never says something like "please close that Oblivion Gate outside of the city": he is asking to be taken into the gate to learn how it is closed. Which makes me wonder whether this comment has anything to do with the Bruma Gate quest. It sounds more like Allies_for_Bruma, except then it's incorrect: you can close the city gates long before talking to the city leaders. So can anyone confirm that a bug like this occurs for Bruma Gate and if so fill in the correct information on to whom you are supposed to speak? --Nephele 14:49, 9 October 2006 (EDT)
They hate me :'([edit]

- just to add... after i posted this i hightailed it to cloud ruler temple on foot (used shodowmere as a a distraction hehe) and talked to jaufree the burma guards no longer hated me... so i don't know what happened. i didn't attack any guards or anything.. - The guards attacked me after closing the gate, too - but I'm pretty sure it's because I kept accidentally hitting them with arrows while inside Oblivion. I had to cast charm on each guard individually before they would accept my yield (note: casting charm on the guards with you before you take the sigil stone won't work - the charm has worn off when you get back to Bruma) 203.33.161.223 02:55, 8 March 2008 (EST)
I had a similar problem, but when i walk up to the gate they start attacking me, its really wierd. I cant start the darn quest. Burd just runs around like an idiot and his soldiers hack away at me. - Guards are known to attack 100% vampires sometimes. Perhaps you could try feeding before heading for the gate? --RpehTalk 03:54, 8 August 2007 (EDT)
Invisible Burd Bug[edit]
I went into the Bruma gate and jumped the broken bridge while burd and his guards were following me. They followed... pretty funny, but they all died and Burd couldnt get out. He just kept getting knocked out in the lava. I left him there and went inside the tower. He was inside with me but i invisible. The game acted like he was there. He was fighting and healing himself and everything that he would normally do, but i could not see him. He was this way until we were on the second floor of the tower. - I can confirm this one. I also jumped the broken bridge, however Burd was able to quickly get out of the lava after falling unconscious only once. He was invisible until paralyzed by a Spider Daedra later on. I was still able to interact with him, heal him, pick his pockets, etc. even though I couldn't see him. 170.170.59.138 02:37, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Dead Guards[edit]
I had shut down the gate with NO casualties and all of a sudden, when I was transported back to Cyrodiil, all the guards who were guarding the gate just died (my oblivion companions were not affected). Is this a glitch or supposed to happen? --Aldage 18:37, 16 October 2007 (EDT)

Gate not closing after sigil stone taken[edit]
I am running several mods too, but the only one that could percievably affect this is OOO. When I take the sigil stone (with burd and his friends watching) the normal graphics occur then die down, we do not get teleported out and just stay there in the sigillum sanguis. Any suggestions? I could console the quest forward etc but I do not know how to close a gte via the console. This has not happened with other characters, even with the same mod setup. - The console command to close the current Oblivion Gate is
CloseOblivionGate

- I had this problem too. I would take the sigil stone and it would play the sound effects and go white and nothing else would happen. Then I tried to use the console
CloseCurrentOblivionGate
from inside the gate and it didn't work(as happened to the person above) but I did find a way to close it. I went into the oblivion gate with Burd then told him to follow me and I exited back to Bruma leaving Burd and his men in the gate and closed the gate on the Bruma side using the console commandCloseOblivionGate
with the Oblivion gate selected and this DID close the gate. It also sent Burd out alive, as he is essential in this mission, but the other two guards corpses were teleported out dead. - Confirming Djdelirius solution. While closecurrentobliviongate did not work for me either, fast traveling to this oblivion gate (via the mod to allow fast travel from interior cells) then opening the console and hovering the gate till it showed text for it, I left clicked it, entered the closeobliviongate command and that did the trick. Quest resumed as it should have when I grabbed the stone at the top. Unfortunately it was hours of googling and reading before I came across this wiki to piece together how to fix it. Finding work arounds for the bugs in this game can be more challenging than the game itself.

Allies?[edit]
Shouldn't Allies for Bruma be one of the next quests? After doing this quest I talked to Jauffre and I got the Allies quest, before doing the Blood of the Divines quest. --Roguelike

stuck in the tower[edit]
i just started this quest but im stuck in the fury spike i just keep going in circles all the doors i find keep bringing be to the same places how do i get to the top of the tower i tried jumping from one level to another but never worked — Unsigned comment by 76.227.136.26 (talk) on 19 March 2008
- go to each (side)tower and pull the swich to activate their gate. do this to ever one of the side towers (theres about 4 to 6). sorry but i forget the rest but after activating all the gates go back inside the main tower (via: the bridges coneecting the towers) and re check the doors.

- Hope he got out of the tower by now! I think he is talking about another tower from one of the other planes. There is a tower like that on one of the random planes, but the Bruma Gate tower is pretty straight forward. Bor & Soren[edit]
Hello!
During this quest, Captain Burd orders Bor & Soren to come with him, while the others stay outside of the gate.
Has anyone ever made it official which guy is "Bor" and which guy is "Soren"?
I'd like to know so that I can name them correctly. I have a mod that names the guards, but the modder wasn't paying attention I guess, to who was already named or not. He named one "Grumpy" and the other.... I forget at the moment.
I want to rename them to the names they were meant to have.

Oh, hey, wow! Fast reply! Thanks SerCenKing! I came back to see why "CloseThisOblivionGate" wasn't working. I've got four people balanced on the ring and my character is unable to grab the stone! Oh, and by the way, "Bashful" was the name I couldn't recall. So now I know that I should've used "Current" instead and that it doesn't make a difference which one gets renamed what. Hm. What Happened to Burd's Armor?[edit]
I went back to Cyrodil in the middle of the Bruma Gate Quest, and when I got back, all of Burd's armor was gone. I suppose this isn't a big issue, because Burd can't die anyway, but it seems a little curious, and he's going to be that much more useless in fighting monsters until we close the Oblivion Gate. Fire+NPC=bad[edit]
I was trying to complete this level when bord(or board i forget) got pushed into the lava. i didnt think much because i thought he would just appear at the end of the gate. but after fighting my way to the top, i figured out i still needed him. i was wondering if i could do a teknesus spell to lift him up or a control humaniod to get him out of the lava.
btw I have a ps3 so i cant to a command consal :(

Captain Burd in Bruma stuck[edit]

In the Bruma Oblivion Gate Quest, Captain Burd gets stuck right before the tower in some weeds under a fire shooting tower. If you knock him away from the spot, by hitting him and knocking him out, he stands up and immediately "warps" back to that exact location. In order to complete the quest, you need Burd to come to the sigil stone with you. Bruma Gate Bug[edit]
For some odd reason whenever I get to the location of the Bruma Battle martin takes forever to start his speech and when he finishes nothing happens no daedra appear and everyone just stands there, ive gone through it over and over and nothing will help i am running some mods but most quests have worked fine
Mundane Ring?[edit]
When I got to the top of the tower in the sigil stone room, I encountered a Dremora Valkynaz who was wearing a Mundane Ring. The same ring you get a few mission's ago. I just thought it was kind of strange a normal Dremora foot soldier was wearing such a valuable ring.--173.49.139.213 03:59, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
- Yup, each Dremora Valkynaz has a 10% chance of having one random magic apparel, and in your case it was a ring. Valkynaz generally aren't foot soldiers, but the highest ranking Dremora, so it's not entirely strange for them to have valuable equipment. Talk Wolok gro-Barok Contributions

- You could just go back to the gate you entered from and leave that way. I'm pretty sure the gate will still close as long as you took the Sigil Stone. --142.161.43.198 04:53, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Going through gate does nothing[edit]
I have a problem where I speak to Burd, he talks to his men, we go to the gate, fight whatever comes out, Burd disappears through the gate, I go through the gate and ... I am on the other side, but not in the Daedric world I expect to be. I have tried this a bunch of times with the same result. - In this quest (as with all gate-closing quests) wearing the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal will not cause the guards to attack you, unless you are still wearing it when you return to Cyrodiil.

burd froze[edit]

- What platform do you play on? If it's xbox360 or ps3 you can load an earlier save or travel back out of the gate and wait 73 hours for Burd to respawn (you might need to change cell though). On PC either of the previous methods work or you could try
CloseCurrentOblivionGate

burd froze outside gate[edit]
burd is froze outside the oblivion gate, keeps saying he's unconscious, 've wait 71 hours and still nothing , if i can't get him to the sgill stone, i can't complete the story line, i use oblivion on the playstation3 (MrD34DMAN 19:44, 30 August 2011 (UTC))
- For PS3 users the two options are - load an earlier save or travel back out of the gate and wait 73 hours for Burd to respawn (you might need to change cell though). These are the only known work around. Unless you told him to wait and just never told him to come back, in that case you may go get him. If you don't know where he is. sheograth staff froze burd[edit]
okay so bruma guards found me and arrested me, so i broke out and got the sheograth staff and froze them and ran away, thing is, burd and two other gaurds and permanently froze, i don't have a other save, all i can do is start again, but i can't because i'll loose hours and hours of work, i use to ps3, help? NEED HELP![edit]
so I've closed the bruma oblivion gate with byrd and every time I return cryodill my health starts draining. I've tried everything I can think of. Please someone help me.
Gate Won't Close[edit]
I went in the Bruma Gate with Burd and took the Sigil Stone. The normal graphics played but the gate did not close, even when I took the stone all the way back out to Bruma. Also, there is a green arrow on the spot where I took the Sigil Stone. This has happened to me another time at one of the randomly appearing gates....is there any way to fix this? I am on the 360 so I don't think most of the solutions suggested will work for me. Please help!

What happens to the Bruma Guards at the end of this quest?[edit]
So what happens to the five Bruma Guards at the end of this quest? I believe they are disabled after leaving the battlefield at a certain point? I wasn't even sure they are unique NPCs, since the City Guard page doesn't even mention them, but I just noticed the cslist does have them enlisted as unique NPCs.
