Hrol Ulfgar

Hrol Ulfgar is a Nord warrior residing in Bleaker's Way, a small village in the Great Forest lying just west of the Silver Road, due north of the Imperial City and south of Bruma. Patriarch of the Ulfgar family, Hrol is one of two targets of Mephala's Daedric quest, the other being fellow patriarch Nivan Dalvilu.

He takes his role as head of the community responsibly, and actively participates in village life. He sleeps from midnight to 6am alone in his house. When he awakens, he eats a quick two-hour breakfast before heading to the local inn to socialize and check up on Kirsten. At midday he will head home for two hours of relaxation, before heading back outside for four hours to chat with the other villagers. At 6pm he will go back inside for another two hours, before once again exiting the house for two more hours of conversing with his neighbors. He will then call it a night, and go back inside for two hours of wandering before bed.

Hrol wears a set of upper class clothing: a green brocade doublet, green silk garment and a pair of green velvet shoes. He is armed with a fine iron longsword and carries his key and a small amount of gold.

Mephala[edit]

Once you are at least level 15 and have presented an offering of Nightshade, the Daedric Lord Mephala will task you with killing Hrol and his fellow patriarch Nivan Dalvilu:

"In Bleaker's Way, two families, Nord and Dunmer, live in perfect harmony. But beneath the surface lurks the secret seed of strife. Kill the leaders of the two families. Plant evidence to implicate the other family as the killer. And don't get caught. Be cunning."

Asking around the village about Hrol will net you positive responses from members of both families:

"Hrol Ulfgar leads the Ulfgar clan. He is a fierce warrior and a wise leader. All the Dalvilu respect the man."
"He leads the Ulfgar clan. He is slow to anger, but fierce with his axe. All the clan values his leadership and judgement."

If you approach Hrol himself, he will confirm his identity and give you a bit more information on the village:

Hrol Ulfgar
"I am Hrol Ulfgar."
Bleaker's Way
"Ulf the Bleaker settled here before Rayno Dalvilu and his family arrived. But the families have long lived together in peace. Nivan Dalvilu and I lead the community, and have done so for many years. It is an excellent arrangement."

To successfully complete the quest, you will need to kill Hrol without being seen and plant some incriminating evidence on his corpse, which will cause the village to descend into bloody mayhem. However, if you kill Hrol but have not yet planted the dagger, a nervous peace will reign, as the responses of both families attest:

Hrol Ulfgar
"Hrol Ulfgar is dead! I cannot imagine who would want to harm him. The culprit will be found, though."
"Hrol Ulfgar has been murdered. We will find the assassin, and he will pay dearly."

Once you do plant the dagger however, all hell breaks loose:

Hrol Ulfgar
"Hrol Ulfgar is dead, and his clan believes our family responsible! This is madness!"
"Hrol Ulfgar has been murdered, and the Dalvilu are responsible! They will pay for their treachery, the wretched Dunmer!"
