Vedelea Othril is a viable candidate for a more or less permanent companion that can be ordered to follow or wait. While like most NPCs she has a somewhat low amount of health (150 HP) and is susceptible to AOE spell friendly fire, this can be mitigated by using custom spells to heal her, raise her resistances, and fortify her health, attributes, and skills. If your principles allow it, she can be given better equipment with the equip or additem console commands.

Completing the task of rescuing her is optional for the Hlaalu quest, although following through with the rescue nets an additional amount of gold and reputation.

She occasionally becomes hostile if told to wait, but this can be reversed by calming her and ordering her to follow.
