Morrowind talk:Shishi Report
Need for a Disambig Page[edit]
I'm not sure a disambig is necessary in this case. The Shishi Report is such a tiny little thing that it's far more likely people will want to see Shishi Report. Generally disambigs are used when there's a pretty good chance people will want to visit either page, e.g. Vivec/Vivec. If one page is far less likely to be visited (and in fact would only be likely to be visited by people already concerned with the other - the note is only a useful page if you're doing the quest), then the main page should be located at the regular location, and the minor page at a disambig. I'd say we should move the quest page back here, so it's the default. --TheRealLurlock Talk 09:25, 20 June 2008 (EDT)
- I disagree (obviously). It doesn't make a difference to most people because they'll follow a link from another page but it makes more sense structurally to use a disambig than have one page with the default name and one with the qualifier. If, however, you're going to start assigning one or other item from disambigs to the default name based on guesswork about which is more likely to be used then I'd much rather see Vivec (city) moved to Vivec because you almost never search for the god. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 10:48, 20 June 2008 (EDT)
- True, but Vivec the god is still a VERY important part of the plot of the game. The Shishi Report note is not. The Shishi Report quest is undeniably far more important, especially since quest pages are probably the most commonly visited parts of this site. (To be honest, I'd considered moving Vivec (city) to just Vivec, mainly based on the number of times I've had to specify that one - it's by far the largest city in the game and thus gets linked probably more than almost any other page in the Morrowind namespace, but Vivec the god is still too important to shove off to the side like that.) This sort of goes along with my earlier statement about disambigs, that if there is a base item and a quest item with the same name, the base item should get the main link, due to the number of times it gets linked from merchant/item pages, while the quest item is generally linked only from the associated quest page. Back to this case, the note is more than anything else basically a sub-page relating to the quest. It is completely irrelevant outside the context of the quest, and thus it's highly unlikely anyone would ever need to link to it directly except on the quest page. --TheRealLurlock Talk 16:34, 20 June 2008 (EDT)
- That's true of a lot of the disambigs. How about Ring of Equity and Amulet of Unity for starters? There's absolutely no harm in having this redirect in place. –Rpeh•T•C•E• 08:49, 22 June 2008 (EDT)
