Morrowind talk:Herd
Source for Alternate Names?[edit]
I've scoured the construction set for any references contained in Herd's dialogue or that of his companions to discover why Herd's NPC page (and the Sinsibadon place page) refer to him as "Herd the Pirate" and "Herd the Bandit". I've been unable to find anything substantiating these names. If Herd is related to any quests or in-game notes where this information is disclosed, it should be linked to the aforementioned pages. If Herd is not related to any quests or notes, it would be good to know where this information comes from. I'm also not sure why Herd's fellow inhabitants are referred to as bandits-turned-pirates, unless this is related to a quest or inferred from Herd's (unsourced) background.
As for the quote referring to Ald Sotha and Bal Fell being "two of the nastiest holes in Vvardenfell", this is not spoken by Herd and is of questionable relevance to the page. I'd recommend removing this along with the sentence about Sinsibadon's "appalling neighbours", as this is just roleplay and not suited to the wiki.
Lastly, is there any reason why Herd has a wiki page but his NPC companions do not? Will these be completed in a later stage of the NPC overhaul? Herd's companions are not generic NPCs, nor is Herd any more interesting than they are. I'm not even sure why Herd is referred to as their leader, considering it is Borug gro-Lazgarn that holds the slave key. Herd has a higher character level, yet apart from that, all of this extraneous information seems invented by a former wiki editor. Thalass (talk) 18:36, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
- There is a rumor in game that states "So Herd the Bandit has become Herd the Pirate? I guess he's decided to try his luck with sea-going banditry. How do you like the idea of Herd and his mob in a boat? I hope they've invested in water-breathing potions.". That's where it comes from. also, him being in charge is from here as well as it is "Herd and his mob" which implies he's in charge. As to why they don't have pages? They aren't specifically named in dialogue, I suppose is the reason? Otherwise, it's cause someone in 2012 made his page a full page and didn't do that for his companions. - Thanks, I found it. There's actually two rumours: the generic one you mentioned, and a second one which is the source of the "two of the nastiest holes" quote. The first is generic but limited to Vivec's Foreign Quarter; the second is unique to Raril Giral (who runs the Black Shalk Corner Club in the Foreign Quarter), so he is the source of that information. I've cleaned up the page a bit and clarified this. Thalass (talk) 22:38, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
