Wylon Montclair was the 39th Baron to lead House Montclair. He was active during the second era, and claimed to be the direct descendant of King Hurlburt of Shornhelm, making him a potential heir to the throne.[1] He was the husband of Leila Montclair and had a one daughter, Lleraya Montclair. He was also a friend of Count Verandis Ravenwatch, the vampire ruler of Castle Ravenwatch.[2] When his wife fell ill, Wylon Montclair was desperate to save her, so desperate that he pleaded with Verandis to turn her into a vampire. However, Verandis either refused to do so or Leila rejected the offer.[3] This eventually led to the events at the Doomcrag, formerly known as Erokii. Reezal-Jul, an Argonian necromancer, offered Wylon a way to save Leila but was actually manipulating Wylon, Lleraya, and Verandis.[4] Desperate to save Leila, the Montclairs and Verandis travelled to the Doomcrag, which housed a powerful artifact at its summit. Reezal-Jul had promised this artifact would cure her. At the the summit, they attempted to use the artifact to save Leila.[3]
Unknown to the Montclairs and Verandis, and possibly Reezal-Jul, the artifact was corrupted. Instead of healing the dying Leilia, it turned her into a vampire. Verandis, responding to her desperate pleas, immediately killed her, honoring her wish to never live the life of a vampire. Wylon, and his daughter, both overcome by grief and shocked at Verandis’ actions, were corrupted by the artifact and also turned into vampires.
Wylon and Lleraya in their grief and despair, sought not only to conqueror and rule all of Rivenspire but also to exact revenge on Verandis for what they perceived as a betrayal, and wreak as much pain and suffering on innocents as possible.[5][6] With the corrupted artifact at their disposal, Wylon and his daughter turned many of their fellow nobles into vampires and caused Rivenspire’s bloodfiend crisis.[5]
Verandis, however, was able to resist the power of the artifact, despite being a vampire himself.[3] He and his House worked to end the threat of the artifact and the Montclairs. With the aid of the Vestige, Verandis stopped the Montclair threat and neutralized the power of the artifact. To do this, he sacrificed himself, taking the artifact out of Tamriel back to the realm of Molag Bal.[7]
Wylon Montclair was a possessive man, unwilling to let go of his wife, even at the cost of his own soul or his wife's humanity. Despite her own horror at the idea, he preferred her to continue to exist as a vampire than to lose her forever.[8] He was also vindictive. At her death, and due to the influence of the artifact, he easily became enthralled by its power.[3] Once enslaved to that power, he saw the people of Rivenspire only as expendable slaves or servants to his goals. He had his general Reezal-Jul turn the citizens of Rivenspire into bloodfiends and vampires at every opportunity for this purpose.[9] Even at the bitter end of his life he relished in the idea of his death dooming Rivenspire.[8] — Unsigned comment by K 8 (talk • contribs) at 02:46 on 12 September 2020 (UTC)
