Whalefall ca. 2E 582

Whalefall is a small, uninhabited island on the central strait of the Systres Archipelago, an island region in the westernmost part of the Abecean Sea. It acquired its name for all of the whale bones that litter it but for a long period of time, it was primarily used by the jailors of nearby Amenos Station, either as a training ground for their personnel or as a hunting ground to kill prisoners for sport.

History

Huntsman's Fortress

The jails on Amenos were established in 2E 11 by Potentate Versidue-Shaie and for the longest time, they used Whalefall as their training ground to subdue prisoners. By the mid-Second Era, however, jailors used the island as a hunting ground and dropped selected prisoners to survive a gauntlet to the peak of the island, a wrecked ship fashioned as an arena. Prisoners are given the promise of freedom but it has been reported that no one has ever survived the Whalefall Games.

In 2E 582, Jailor Tynan Mannick enlisted six hunters and gathered several prisoners for the games. Among those selected was Anton Motierre, a Breton swindler. His partner-in-crime, Louna Jolvanne hatched a plan to rescue him by building a raft made out of trash collected on Amenos and sail between the islands. She enlisted the help of a mainlander and the two trekked the island as the games ensued. They tracked Anton to the winner's stage, the arena manned by Jailor Mannick, and after a battle with the jailor, they rescued Anton and escaped the island.

Huntsman's Fortress was a stronghold located in the northwestern part of the island, where the mysterious baron known as the Huntsman organized gladiatorial contests for the enjoyment of the landed gentry of High Rock. He collected unique fauna from all over Tamriel such as echalettes, Nirnblooded senche, and welwas as pit beasts for the arena. By 2E 582, the Circle of Champions began utilizing the ruins to stage brutal gladiator battles. Fighters from all factions of the Alliance War came to the Huntsman's Fortress arena to compete, fighting for the glory of the Fire Drakes, Pit Daemons, and Storm Lords teams.

Notes

• A whale fall is a phenomenon where the carcass of a whale falls to the ocean floor and creates complex localized ecosystems that supply sustenance to deep-sea organisms for decades.
