Tanzelwil is a large ruin on the coastal highlands of Auridon, the second-largest island in the province of the Summerset Isles. The Altmer consider the ruins one of their most sacred sites on the island as it serves as a temple for the Ancients; ancestors to the island's people and a mausoleum to ancient kinlords.[1] New monarchs of the province will travel to Tanzelwil's Ancestral Chamber and quietly commune with the dead to retrieve their blessings.[2] The ruins are built in a large, forested valley that splits Iluvamir from the rest of the island. It extends west over a plateau that looms over the Auridon Strait.[3]
History[edit]
At some point in time, the Dragonguard built a hidden, underground tomb in the ravine in the middle of the temple's compound, underneath a red cherry blossom tree. They also hid glyphs that could open it across the grounds.[4]
In 2E 582, Queen Ayrenn traveled to Tanzelwil with her entourage of confidants and the First Auridon Marines to retrieve the dead's blessing. However, upon arrival, she was denied by a spirit that claimed her ancestors disavowed her and revealed the involvement of both the Veiled Queen and Ayrenn's advisor, Norion. The mage-turned-advisor placed magical stones all over the temple and used them to corrupt the spirits. In response, Ayrenn sent her Agent to rescue two priestesses, and they destroyed the stones along the way.[5][6] They later joined her in the ruins' inner chambers where they confronted Norion and Ayrenn received her ancestor's blessing and acknowledgment.[7]
