Quasigriffs are large, feathered, wingless quadrupeds that are related to Summerset gryphons. They were created through a combination of wizardry and selective breeding. According to their creator, Irastimil Direnni, their wingless frame kept their upkeep costs low.[1] Although they were created artificially, various breeds of Quasigriffs can be found in the Systres,[2] Balfiera,[3] Hammerfell,[4] and even in the Deadlands.[5]
Despite Irastimil's aim to create mounts that could maintain superiority over the Breton steeds,[1] a breed of quasigriffs was adopted by the Breton nobility themselves. Colorful Baysong Quasigriffs, with vibrant sea-tinted feathers, found their home in the Systres Archipelago. Their creation was accidental, as they were never intended to be bred by the Direnni.[2]
Another, likely unintended variant of the quasigriffs, known as Dagonic Quasigriffs were a product of the daedric corruption of the Deadlands. They possessed dark plumage, sharpened claws, and were known to be prone to rage.[5]
Despite being artificial creations, some breeds of Quasigriffs are considered sacred by the faithful of Auri-El. Aurielic Quasigriffs, who typically possess golden plumage, are customarily taken from the nest almost as soon as they break through the shells of their eggs. Inhabitants of Balfiera often pamper, preen and provide for these quasigriffs. Their fallen feathers are used as fletching by local archers.[3]
The corruption of the Spellscar altered some Quasigriffs.[4]
