Race Unknown Gender Male

This article is about the sorceror-king. For the god, see Magnus. For the emperor, see Magnus Septim. For the astronomical object, see Sun.

The Sorceror-King Magnus[1][nb 1][nb 2] (also known as Arch-Mage Magnus)[2] was the possessor of the Staff of Magnus, who once lived on Tamriel.[1] Just before he died, Magnus entrusted the Imperial Order of Blades with a map to where the Staff of Magnus could be found, which had been placed within a dungeon somewhere in Elsweyr.[1][nb 3]

Notes[edit]

  • ^1  At the time of Arena and Daggerfall, Magnus was not yet a god. According to series designer Michael Kirkbride, for the writing of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, he elevated the namesakes behind Tamriel's artifacts into gods as a way of fleshing out Tamriel's pantheons, as to him, heroes and gods are virtually one and the same.[UOL 1]
  • ^2  The exact same spelling and use of the title "sorceror-king" was also used for "sorceror-king Umaril" in the Knights of the Nine expansion for Oblivion.[3] Throughout the text of Arena, the spelling of the word Sorcerer used the standardization "Sorceror."
  • ^3  The Blades as a faction were not founded until the late Second Era, around the time of Tiber Septim; meaning Sorceror-King Magnus must have been in power sometime around or after this time period.[4][UOL 2]
