Lore:Chaurus
Chaurus are large hostile arthropods found in caves deep below the surface of Skyrim and in some cases on the surface. They possess highly poisonous saliva as well as a powerful bite.[1] Chaurus are bred and raised by the Falmer, later to be killed and have their chitin used for armor.[2] Ancient legends tell of the Snow Elves who allegedly raised colossal insects within the depths of caves, nurturing them until their nearly impenetrable exoskeletons could be harvested.[3] The Gray Host tamed Chaurus in their experiments in Blackreach, using them as guards.[4] Their meat is used in Nordic cuisine.[5]
Life Cycle[edit]
When a Chaurus reaches the end of its life, its body undergoes a dramatic transformation. After days of death-like stillness, the Chaurus Hunter bursts free from the husk of the Chaurus.[6]
