Blackheart Haven is a jungled island within the Bjoulsae River. It is the most notorious of dozens of small islands in the river that have long served as refuges for smugglers and sea raiders.[1] Before pirates took it over, the island was described as a paradise.[2]
History[edit]
During the Interregum, the island was controlled by Blackheart, an infamous pirate and captain of the Black Death. Blackheart's tactics were handled his business with more subtlety than his reputation suggested, rarely harming his victims.[3] When raiding a ship bound for Skyrim, Blackheart looted two enchanted skulls.[3][4] These skulls turned out to be cursed relics of Molag Bal, who granted Blackheart and his crew increased durability and undeath.[4]
Bal's blessing came with a curse, though, for the pirates soon came to be under his control as thralls. Bal took over the pirates' bodies and forced them to slaughter their victims.[4][5] Additionally, the possessed Blackheart was able to tame flocks of harpies to ravage his victims and recruit hags to care for the harpies.[4][3] Shifty Tom, a member of Blackheart's crew, managed to break free of the enthralling spell, possibly assisted by his Breton blood.[5][4]
However, Tom was still plagued by his undeath. Circa 2E 582, he recruited the help of an adventurer to cure himself, as well as the rest of the crew. The adventurer delved into Blackheart's base of operations and retrieved one of the skulls, which Tom promptly destroyed, revealing his, as well as the crew's, skeletal forms. The two then stormed further into the base, defeating Blackheart himself and claiming the second skull. Upon Tom destroying it, he, as well as the rest of the undead crew, finally died true deaths.[4][6]
In the same year, the Undaunted were tasked with putting an end to Blackheart and his crew.[2][7]
