Jarl Angjord was the ruler of the Rift Hold during the Three Banners War of the Interregnum.[1]
History[edit]
Little is known of Angjord's history and reign. The Jarl wanted to seal off the sewers beneath Riften multiple times, but thieves and troublemakers continued to use the so-called Riften Ratway as a safe haven and hiding place, despite his efforts.[2][3] The Jarl of the Rift was also personally offended by the Worm Cultists invading his lands and issued a contract to the Fighters Guild to destroy the Dark Anchors.[4]
By 2E 582, Thane Unnvald Ironhand of Fullhelm Fort accused one of Jarl Angjord's messengers of being an assassin and had him executed. He had become paranoid due to his poor past dealings with the Jarls, which included having his statue placed in Riften. However, it is unclear whether it was Angjord or his predecessor who was responsible for this.[1] In the same year, Goharth Ironbelly, a wealthy merchant, threatened to tell the Jarl of the Rift about Sister Balra, a Reachfolk witch from the Icereach Coven, after she refused to honor their trade deal. However, he was killed before he could carry out his threat.[5]
Notes[edit]
- While Angjord is the only known Jarl of the Rift active during 2E 582, there are several letters that suggest there were multiple Jarls of the Rift at the same time. Some of these were romantic letters between a Jarl and a foreign dignitary, while others were invitations to casual gatherings with the Jarls of the Rift.[6][7]
