Daggerfall Default Key Bindings[edit]

This table shows the default control key bindings that are used by the game. You can change almost all listed key bindings in the game options menu by selecting "Controls". As changing the "Swing Weapon" key binding to any binding other than the second mouse button may cause problems, players are advised to retain the default binding for that control.

Dialogue Shortcuts[edit]

Instead of clicking on the respective message box buttons with the mouse cursor during dialogue, you may press the Y or N keys respectively to accept or decline an offer or quest. This is especially useful when you are speaking with one of the Daedric princes, as their quest dialogue does not provide a message box, and there is therefore no way besides these two keys to interact with them.

Accept offer/quest Key
"Yes" Y
"No" N

Screenshots[edit]

Native Support[edit]

Screenshots can be captured natively by pressing the \ key, as long as a folder named PICS has been created within the DAGGER folder of a standard Daggerfall installation.

These screenshots will be 64 kilobyte bitmap files, captured at the game's native resolution of 320x200, with the naming scheme SCRx.BMP where "x" is an incrementing number. It is not possible to capture screenshots this way at all times; periods of gameplay where screenshots are not supported include title screens, cutscenes and character creation. Screenshots are otherwise supported during normal gameplay and menus, such as the character menu or fast travel map.

Caution: every time the game is restarted, old screenshots will be overwritten by new ones with the same names, beginning at SCR0.BMP and incrementing upwards.

Screenshots captured this way are ideal for use on this wiki, as they represent the game as originally rendered without filter or stretching. Increasing the size of such images for use elsewhere is best accomplished in whole increments of 100% using "nearest neighbor" filtering in an image editor such as Photoshop.

DOSBox[edit]

Screenshots can be captured within DOSBox by pressing Ctrl + F5, which will create a folder named "capture" within the DOSBox folder if it does not already exist.

DOSBox's settings may alter the format of such screenshots, but by default they are captured in png format at the game's native resolution without filtering. Daggerfall screenshots will be named fall_xxx.png, where "xxx" is an incrementing number.

Windows[edit]

Screenshots can be captured within Windows by pressing Alt + PrintScrn, which will copy an image of the current window to the clipboard. Players can then paste this image into an image editor such as Microsoft Paint.

Screenshots captured this way will retain their window title bar, and will also display any filtering or stretching that DOSBox has implemented. Such screenshots are less-than-ideal for wiki use, as they do not accurately represent the game as it originally ran.

Notes[edit]

  • You must adjust the control settings in order for cheats to work when running DOSBox (see here).
