Lore Confusion?

According to Ulfgar the Unending, the betrayal of Grimkell and the stone-turning of his friends occured ca. 500 years before the events of Morrowind. He himself being turned only half to stone, became seemingly immortal. He also mentions that he and his friends served in the Fivehundred Companions of Ysgramor and helped drive the Elves out of skyrim. Now my question is, how is that possible ?

As the Five-Hundred arrived to tamriel in the early first era, which spanned for over a thousand years itself, it would be highly impossible for him to have lived then, or am i wrong? --The Hlaalu (talk) 15:55, 12 February 2014 (GMT)
