Walkthrough[edit]
Exterior[edit]
One of Thorina's Cutters is sat outside the entrance; nearby you will find two ruby geodes and a milk thistle plant.
Cutpurse Cave[edit]
The first zone is one cavernous chamber holding the ruins of a large fort. After descending down a corridor and dispatching a Cutter you will arrive in front of a stable with a paint horse and a palisade wall. Two towers abut the sides of the cave and can be climbed to: the eastern via a path and the western by jumping across the rock face. The path to the former requires you to navigate a palisade obstacle and two bear traps; just before the traps, jump onto the stone ledge with the dummy target to access a minor loot chest. The tower itself hosts a sharpshooter, a knapsack, some steel arrows and a leveled bow at the very top. The western tower is abandoned but offers a good sniping position. With some skill, it is possible to move all the way along the eastern wall to the door leading to the Fort.
From the main chamber, head towards the palisade and loot the carriage in the stables, which holds a potion of true shot, four bottles of skooma, a portion of moon sugar, a Scroll of Invisibility, a Scroll of Frost Cloak and a sack of smuggled wines. Past the wooden gate is a small wooden tower guarded by a Cutter and high above you is a rope bridge with two Cutter sharpshooters. To the east, on a small platform are a number of steel arrows and a copy of The Lusty Argonian Maid, v2. Press on south through the door, taking care to avoid the tripwires activating the two falling boulders traps above.
On the left when exiting the boulder trap room are a few crates with six bottles of skooma, a cure poison potion, a Scroll of Fear and a bear pelt. To the west is a campsite with a Cutter guarding three small tents with bedrolls, two tanning racks, a cooking spit, various leather pieces, some leather strips and a large tent with a bed and a coin purse. Beyond it is the door to the Ruined Jail. When you emerge from the jail, head back south and take the western stairs. These lead to a tower with a Cutter, a chest, a table laden with food and drink, a flawless amethyst, a flawless topaz, a standard topaz, a silver and sapphire circlet, a gold ruby necklace, a silver jeweled necklace, a leveled potion, four skooma bottles, a leveled poison, a leveled enchanted dagger, two leveled swords, a pair of leveled boots, two coin purses and plenty of gold.
Continue north to a small campsite with a Cutter spellcaster and a large tent with a bed, some silverware and an adept-locked strongbox. From here, head west, past a small lake, to an open tower with two Cutters (one melee, one spellcaster), a dog, a chest, a satchel, a knapsack and two coin purses. Head back east over the plank bridge, and when at the base of the eastern tower, jump up a ledge to access a chest. Follow the stone pathway south to the tower above the boulder trap room: at the top is a Cutter mage, an apprentice-locked chest, an arcane enchanter, an empty lesser soul gem, two filled common gems, a filled greater gem, a black soul gem, an imperial light helmet of minor magicka, a pair of imperial boots of hauling, a Scroll of Fireball, a Scroll of Cure Wounds, a Scroll of Conjure Storm Atronach, the spell tome Healing Hands, a leveled one-handed weapon and a coin purse.
Next make for the southern corner, where in an open tower you will find two Cutters guarding an alchemy lab, an alembic, various ingredients, two apothecary's satchels, two leveled potions, a leveled poison, an emerald, two bottles of skooma, a cooking spit, a chopping block and two coin purses. From here, head west, battling past another Cutter, to the door to Fort Cutpurse, unlocking it with the key found in the Ruined Jail.
When retracing your steps after completing Against the Cutters, once you reach the stables in the first large chamber you will find five Cutters looking over the bodies of their fallen comrades. Of the five, one is a boss-level Lieutenant, one is a spellslinger, one is a melee fighter and the other two are sharpshooters.
Ruined Jail[edit]
Immediately upon entering this zone you will be faced by a Cutter spellcaster. The fighting will very likely attract another Cutter sharpshooter and a Cutter lieutenant, who holds the key to Fort Cutpurse. In the first room you will also find the corpse of an alchemist in a crow cage, a large map of Cyrodiil on a table, a leveled helmet, two leveled poisons, a pair of fine boots and a flute. Follow the stairs down to a small room with two cots, an adept-locked chest, a knapsack, a shrine of Zenithar, a draught of waterbreathing, a flute, a lute, a pair of fine boots and some gold and lockpicks. In a basket on one of the shelves you will find a flawless amethyst, a flawless garnet, a flawless sapphire and a copy of The Lusty Argonian Maid, v1. In the adept-locked cell nearby is a bloody haypile and a dead Imperial.
Head into the flooded cells to the west; immediately in front you is an open cell with a coin purse. Make your way south, past two open cells until you reach an area with two apprentice-locked cages containing skeletons and a hanging cage hosting the corpse of a Nord. In the final room is a Cutter, a leveled waterbreathing potion, and a coin purse, some gold and two lockpicks. Head back north to reach an open cell with a skeleton and torture rack, and an expert-locked cell with a chest and leveled potion.
Past a novice-locked door nearby is an underwater section with cells and alcoves. Moving clockwise you will find: an adept-locked cell with a leveled potion; an open cell with some lockpicks in a bucket; a Nirnroot; an area with two leveled enchanted bows, a leveled enchanted greatsword and an apprentice-locked chest; another Nirnroot; an empty cell; an area with a minor loot chest, a filled grand soul gem, a flawless emerald (near the gem), a flawless garnet (on top of a wardrobe) and a coin purse; a third Nirnroot; an open cage with a skeleton; and an adept-locked cell with a skeleton and a gold ingot in a bucket.
Fort Cutpurse[edit]
Upon entering you will find a door to your left locked: the tower key required to open it is carried by a Cutter in the large room to the south. Enter the room and you will find yourself on the lower level, next to a chapel where a Cutter is praying in front of an shrine of Mara. Unless you are sneaking, the fighting will probably attract the four Cutters in the upper level. In the chapel itself you will find an amulet of Mara, some silverware, two skooma bottles, a coin purse and portions of moon sugar and mandrake root.
The upper level is a large living area walled off by a wooden palisade, which you can enter from the main gate or by taking the bear-trapped passage to the south. Just in front of the gate is an overturned table with an empty grand soul gem, two black soul gems and a coin purse; an adept-locked chest, an Imperial bow, a Dibella statue, a gold ingot and a coin purse can be found in the southern passage. The living area hosts four Cutters, a kitchen and pantry full of food and drink, a dining area and a sleeping area. In the kitchen you will find a leveled one-handed weapon, three skooma bottles, two leveled potions and some gold. In the box on top of some shelves hosting cheese and drinks you will also find a flawless diamond and a copy of The Lusty Argonian Maid, v1; you'll need to jump to reach them. Between the kitchen and sleeping area you will find some Imperial and steel weapons and armor. By the four beds are an expert-locked strongbox, a chest, a knapsack, a leveled potion, two skooma bottles, a silver amethyst ring, a copper and ruby circlet, a gold necklace, a jade ring, a horker tusk and two coin purses.
Track back to the entrance and unlock the eastern door to enter a tower where you will find a Cutter, a cave bear pelt, some pieces of Imperial armor as well as a bow and arrows. Make your way up the winding stairs to a landing with another Cutter guarding an expert-locked cell door. Behind this is the fort's armory, filled with heavy and light Imperial armor and steel weapons. You will also find a boss chest, a standard chest, a leveled enchanted bow, a leveled staff, a leveled sword, 90 steel arrows, two leveled potions, a leveled poison and a coin purse here. Inside a box on top of the crates are two leveled potions and four coin purses. In front of the cell door is an opening looking down into the previous room; a chest is on the opposite side and can be reached by shimmying across a ledge, avoiding a few bear traps.
At the top of the stairs is the bandit gang's headquarters: in a lavishly decorated room you will find Thorina and her two companions: Enchanter Brecius and Snipes-Many-Innocents. Be prepared for a very tough fight: Thorina wields a unique enchanted warhammer and with her formidable set of Two-handed perks, she is quite capable of one-shotting you if you're not careful. Brecius and Snipes will meanwhile gang up on you with spells and missile attacks.
The dining room and bedroom beyond hold a chest, a leveled enchanted dagger, four skooma bottles, a leveled stamina potion, a copy of the rare Murder and Mayhem: A Practical Guide, four gold ingots, two meteoric iron ingots, a flawless garnet, a sapphire, a topaz, a mammoth tusk, plenty of silverware and two coin purses. In a corner of the bedroom are two expert-locked safes and a master-locked cage containing four gold ingots, four skooma bottles, the spell tome Soul Trap and two coin purses.
