Detailed Walkthrough[edit]

Cheydinhal[edit]

Cyrus and Radene Ores have been communicating for some time. On the top floor of the Old Tower, there are some letters Radene received from Cyrus, plus an unsent letter from Radene to Cyrus:

Note 1: Radene, Be sure to use perfect pearls, flawed ones won't work! Cyrus

Note 2: Radene, Remember to keep your experiments to yourself, the Guild would not be pleased with our work! I've made little progress so far, send me an update as soon as possible. Cyrus

Note 3: Radene, I've done it! Come quick, I can't let the Guild find out. Don't tell anyone where you're going. Cyrus

Note 4 (Unfinished): Cyrus, I'm concerned the cage may not be strong enough. Are you sure it won't be able to escape?"

There's a small box in the Old Tower with a key to Cyrus' house. Take the key and go to Skingrad.

Skingrad[edit]

Cyrus' house is located in southwestern Skingrad. Once you get inside, look around; you'll find his study on the second floor. There are some letters Cyrus received from Radene, plus an unsent letter from Cyrus to Radene:

Note 1: Cyrus, I've found a great supply of cheap pearls. They're not perfect, but at this price it really doesn't matter if some are no good. You should order some yourself for the experiments, look for Percan Cedus in the Market District of the Imperial City. Radene

Note 2: Cyrus, No luck. Absolutely none. I hope you're doing better than me, I'm starting to wonder whether that archaeologist was lying about the contents of these pots. Radene

Note 3 (Unfinished): Radene come quick, something's gone wrong. Even now I hear strange noises coming from my lab. If the guards hear, the Guild will find out what we've been doing. Come now, please!

A door in the back wall leads to his lab. Down at the bottom of the stairs, you'll find a large (mostly destroyed) cage, and a grate leading down to the sewers. Go down to the sewers. There's only one way to go here, so don't worry about getting lost. Partway along, you'll find Radene's body; she came at Cyrus' summons and was killed by something further on. Which, as you find out, is a really big ogre (see the Notes, below). If you kill the ogre, you'll find a few coins in an open chest at the back of the room.

Notes[edit]

A lot of this quest is left to the player's imagination. Cyrus and Radene were each attempting to conjure up something which they thought the cage would contain, using pearls bought from the Market District Fishmonger in the Imperial City Market District. Cyrus succeeded and sent his note to Radene, but the cage failed, he was somehow possessed and gradually turned into an ogre, becoming less intelligent over time. Radene abandoned her efforts to join Cyrus and witness his success, but as soon as she entered the part of the sewers large enough for Cyrus the ogre to move around in, he killed her as he no longer recognised her.
