A Frostbite Spider

Frostbite Spiders are giant arachnids which attack on sight, and can be found both in the wilderness and in dungeons. Their lairs are often covered in webs, and usually contain web sacs. Spider Eggs can be found in nearby egg sacs. They come in two different color variations: one that tends to appear in dungeons and in the more southern areas of Skyrim is reddish orange, while the ones found in the northern areas tends to be bluish white. There is no difference otherwise between the color variations, though size can dictate combat difficulty in dealing with them: the smallest ones are the easiest, followed by the medium sized ones, and the toughest of all are the spiders which outsize a horse.

When at range they spit poisonous venom (spell Frostbite Poison, Health + Stamina Damage, 5 pts for 5 seconds), even if turned partly or fully away from their victims, and can leap onto their targets to attack with their bite. Without poison resistance, you will be poisoned by nearly every hit from these monsters. Their previous victims, dessicated corpses, can sometimes be found nearby.

Hearthfire

Notes

• Two giant frostbite spiders can be found in a random encounter in the wilds, fighting over a non-lootable desicated corpse. If one of the spiders survives (or if they notice you before they kill each other), one or both will turn on you, instead.
• The largest of the frostbite spiders can easily outrun you if you attempt to get away on foot without the aid of a horse, even if you sprint.
• Despite there being two color variations, you can only craft the orange frostbite spider as a trophy.
